While many government schools are declining, South School stands as a proud exception—a model government high school in the state. Established in 1930 as the Udupi Municipal Primary School for Girls, it later opened its doors to boys as well. In 1963, it expanded to include high school education and proudly celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2012–13, marking 50 years of excellence, growth, and service in education.
